Scanbio FactoryWe buy by-catch, fish offal and fish processing by-products

If your company has by-catch, fish offal or fish processing by-products, we want to hear from you

ScanPro and ScanOil are made from concentrated freshly conserved fish by-products from the European fishing and aquaculture industries. We are constantly in search of new suppliers, so if your company has by-catch, fish offal or fish processing by-products, we want to hear from you.

We produce two distinct end product lines, animal feed and aquaculture feed ingredients. We work closely with our customers, to make sure they use the appropriate grade of ScanPro or ScanOil to meet the formulations they require. What this means for our suppliers is that we divide our raw material purchasing into two streams: salmonids and non-salmonids.

Raw material supply streams

Farmed salmonids

We buy conserved by-products from salmon and trout processing to produce ScanPro 35-4 and ScanOil M. These products go into formulations for feeding pigs, poultry and non-salmonid fish species.

Non-salmonids - wild caught fish or farmed other species

We buy conserved* by-products, by-catch and damaged fish from fish processors, merchants and wholesalers. We are interested in fish of any species other than salmonids, because the products we make will be sold for salmon feed formulation.

*Conserved by-products have been macerated and treated with 3% formic acid and then stirred for a period of a few days. The end product at this stage is called 'fish silage' and has a very long shelf life at ambient temperature. Scanbio are experts in fish silage and we can provide a technical solution and staff training to enable a new supplier to produce a stable and non-smelling by-product.
